Why You Should Verify Your Site in Google Search Console

Google Search Console

Google Search Console allows you to manage your website’s presence in Google search results. If you’re serious about getting your website noticed, you should get it verified.

Google Search Console – formerly Google Webmaster Tools – is an invaluable tool for webmasters, designers, marketeers, entrepreneurs… pretty much anyone who wants to maximise the effectiveness of their website! It allows you to understand how visitors interact with your website, and make changes to optimise performance and search engine rankings.

At Impact Digital Marketing, we believe that you should verify your site in Google Search Console. In this blog post we’ll give you five reasons why.

Utilising Google Search Console

Google Search Console unlocks functionality that would otherwise be difficult – or at the very least time-consuming – to achieve. Here are five of the key advantages of verifying your site: –

  • Identify Malware and Threat Issues. The Internet is rife with cyber-threats, and no website is totally immune. Google Search Console allows you to identify suspicious traffic or activity that may be linked with malware or threat issues.
  • Identify Crawl Errors. A crawl error occurs if Google is unable to crawl a page on your website. A webpage that returns a crawl error won’t appear on Google search results, and so you should always address this where possible. Search Console helps you to identify and remove crawl errors.
  • Identify External Links. Link building is an extremely useful SEO tool, but external links from irrelevant or inappropriate sites can damage your rankings. Search Console allows you to identify external links to your website, and disavow any that you do not want to associate with.
  • Identify 404 Errors. A 404 error occurs when a visitor tries to reach a webpage that can’t be found on the server. Google Search Console helps you to identify 404 errors and create 301 redirects, taking visitors to an appropriate page and avoiding the dreaded ‘404 Not Found Error’ message.
  • Schema Markup and HTML Tagging. Schema markup allows you to provide richer search engine results to users. A good example of utilising a schema markup is a cinema advertising film times within Google’s search results. Search Console gives you the functionality to achieve this.

Implementing Google Search Console

Google Search Console will allow you to understand your website traffic, and implement improvements to enhance your website’s effectiveness. Impact Digital Marketing can help you verify and manage your website in Google Search Console.

Already using Google Search Console?

If you are already using Google Search Console, that’s great! But have you have linked it to your Google Analytics account? Linking both accounts will allow you to share data across both platforms, giving you more meaningful insight.
