10 Ways to Keep Your WordPress Website Safe and Secure

Keeping your WordPress website secure

Never say never! That’s a phrase that’s becoming more common in the world of technology, especially when it comes to cybersecurity.

With the best will in the world, you can’t stop every possible hack or cyber-attack. However, you can make sure that you have taken all the necessary precautions to safeguard your WordPress website.

At Impact Digital Marketing we are specialists in WordPress websites. In this blog post we have outlined 10 ways to keep your WordPress website safe and secure: –

  1. Enforce a strong password policy to make your logins more complex.
  2. Regularly update your WordPress login details.
  3. Remove registered users from your site that no longer need access.
  4. Ensure that registered users have the correct permissions and roles. Don’t give everyone admin access if they don’t need it!
  5. Install Two Factor Authentication on your site. This forces registered users to authenticate themselves by a secondary method, which ensures that it is the registered user accessing the site.
  6. Change your default login WordPress page (hackers will go to the default login page to attempt to gain access). Changing this login page makes it harder to determine the login page.
  7. Maintain your plugins. Update plugins that show an update is available, and remove any plugins you no longer use or need, as these can have potential vulnerabilities for hackers to exploit.
  8. Ensure that your WordPress database is up to date with the latest version.
  9. Ensure that your web server has been updated with the latest patches.
  10. Take daily, weekly, and monthly backups of your site so that you’ve always got a version you can restore in case you need to.
